Jewish Family Service Agency Seed to Table Project with Newcomers

Spring has sprung and Jewish Family Service Agency (JFSA) Seed to Table Garden Project is growing in more ways than one. On March 16, over 35 Newcomers helped prepare the earth and planted seeds for our Seed to Table Garden Project. Participants learned about organic plants and food from around the world. Tricia Sedgwick, JFSA Garden Project Coordinator explained the project and oversaw seed planting activities using crops designated for harvest celebrations and food bank donations.

Working with the City of Vancouver, JFSA has obtained garden space at West 57th and East Boulevard.  The theme of the project is “The World in the Garden” whereby individual plots will represent different regions of the world with their respective native crops. This was a perfect opportunity for our new immigrants from South Africa, FSU and Israel to meet and share in the digging and planting of this wonderful project.

We would like to thank our community partners: Vancity, United Way, Vancouver Foundation, The City of Vancouver, VCAN, Houston Landscapes, West Coast Seeds, and Choices Market for the generous contributions they have provided to make this dream a reality. If you would like to make a contribution, donate materials or volunteer with this exciting community project please contact Tricia at 604-257-5151 or email
